Young Women in Public Affairs Award and Scholarship
Irene Hong of Lynbrook High School in San Jose, CA, USA was named the recipient of the 2013 Zonta Club of Silicon Valley Young Women in Public Affairs Award.
The Zonta Internation
al Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Program to encourages young women to participate in public affairs by recognizing their commitment to volunteering, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
Applicants are asked to reflect on the issues affecting their school and community and the problems limiting the advancement of the status of women in their country and worldwide. The Zonta YWPA Program looks to the young women of today for the leaders of tomorrow.
Ms. Hong was named Zonta Club of Silicon Valley’s 2013 YWPA recipient because of her commitment to aiding communication and problem solving in her multicultural community of Spanish, Korean, and English speakers.
Ms. Hong intends to pursue Economics and International Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. She believes that women should take measures to alleviate teen dating violence, as it is a precursor to domestic violence and other crimes against women.
